A restaurant with red and black striped awnings.

With its distinctive red and black label, Hediard (pronounced “e-dee-yarâ€) is a top place to buy fine coffee, tea, sweets, chocolates, fruits and wine. Established in 1854, what is unique about Hediard is that in each store there is a cart with a beautiful assortment of lush fresh fruits, including bananas, berries, and maybe some other exotic fruits. This is understandable as Hediard was initially a purveyor of tropical fruits, including pineapple, which he introduced to Parisians after seeing the fruit at the port of Le Havre. Hediard also sells candied fruits and one of its top specialties is pâté de fruit (square molds of different fruit sugared candies, which are simply delightful).

Hediard also sells wonderful boxes of chocolate, olive oils, vinegars, jams, fruit jellies, and has a splendid cellar of wines, including wines under the Hediard label. Whenever I am going to a dinner party, or want to surprise friends with a special treat, Hediard is always on the top of mind, as you can always find something there that will delight your friend, or yourself.
