The Grand Palais, a majestic exhibition building near the Champs-Elysees, holds a special exhibition of Monet paintings until January 24, 2011. The exhibit demonstrates Monet as a complex painter of emotion, as well as an outdoor painter of beauty. A few of the artworks were sold directly to collectors by Monet and have never been shown in France before until now.
This is the largest amassed exhibition of the artist’s work since a major Parisian retrospective in 1980. Approximately 200 canvases and drawings by Monet are on display, a third of which came from the Musee d’Orsay’s permanent collection, including the spectacular Rouen Cathedral series (1892-1893) and the popular Poppies Blooming (1873). The remainder are on loan from numerous art museums and private collections overseas, including those in America, Russia and Japan.
The exhibition occurs at the same time the Musee Marmottan displays a special exhibition of Monet paintings beyond the artworks housed at this special museum in the 16th Arrondissement near Jardin du Ranelagh.

how can I get a ticket to the Monet exhibition at the Grand Palais. I need to book one in advance and online sales are closed. Are there any good ticket agents in Paris that have tickets?
I was just there last week. We did not have tickets. You will have to wait on line – it was a 1-1/2 hour wait but it is worth it. Try to go on a Mon – Fri and as early as possible. I hear the wait is longer on the weekends. Don’t miss this if you are going to Paris!
