The Long Hop
Located in the 5th Arrondissement, The Long Hop is an excellent place to meet up with friends. The Long Hop has a typical warm Irish pub feel to it and the bartenders are always friendly and very accessible, even when it gets busy on weekend nights – a huge plus because nobody likes to wait forever to be served.
It was for all of these reasons that I was happy to spend my St. Patrick’s Day with the crowd at Long Hop. I knew that I would find a great crowd and (most importantly) would be able to dance to great music. Sure enough my instincts were right. There was a huge crowd and, even though it was one of the busiest bar nights of the year, we didn’t have to wait our entire group of 8 was served in less than than 10 minutes after our arrival. The music is mostly Top 40, and they have a lot of places to dance. On Friday and Saturday nights they open up all 3 floors so it almost feels like you are in a spacy night club – but without the high price and entrance fees.
Long Hop is also very versatile and isn’t just known for having a crowded weekend bar scene. When I went there to take photos during the week it felt cozy and comfortable. There were quite a few people sitting at the bar chatting and having drinks and the bartenders were really warm and open, and talked to me and my friend for a while. In short, Long Hop wears two faces – one being the fun relaxing neighborhood bar, the second a happening an active scene for young adults!
The Long Hop is open seven days a week and between Sunday and Thursday there is a different theme for each night. Sunday night is “American Night†and they air NFL games and feature live music, and if you are so inclined you can even play a game of beer pong. Monday night is dedicated to music trivia – and the winner of the trivia contest gets a free bottle of champagne. Tuesday night is, my favorite, Ladies Night. You can’t beat the prices – 2€ kirs and wine, 3€ screwdrivers and gin& tonics, and 4€ vodka cocktails. Gals will love life at Long Hop on Tuesday. Wednesday from 10-close you get double the drink for the same price and Thursday is students night, so don’t forget your student ID.
